LOCAL NUTRITIONIST RECOGNIZED WITH PYRAMID AWARD

Stowe, Vermont – May 16th, 2003 – Patricia Laggis, Nutrition Representative at Cabot Creamery, has been selected to receive the Pyramid Award by the Vermont dietetic Association (VDA). The selection recognizes Laggis’ commitment and contributions to the VDA and the dietetics profession as well as her continued support towards the promotion of good nutrition.

The Vermont Pyramid Award, established in 1997 by the VDA, is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the health of Vermonters by promoting healthy eating habits. “Pat exemplifies all that we look for in our Pyramid recipient,” states Julie Martin, VDA president. “We feel privileged to have her as a part of Vermont’s dietician community and are thrilled to recognize her among her peers!”

Laggis has been working in her current position with Cabot since 1989 during which time she and her team have been involved in numerous initiatives aimed at educating the public and media. Laggis leads the Cabot Health Team as they work closely with dietitians, diabetes educators and health professional to educate consumers on dairy's important role in a healthy lifestyle. Over the years, Pat and Cabot's reduced fat products have been a large part of major research projects, including DASH, Women's Health Initiative and Tuft's University Bones Project. These studies look at dairy's impact on hypertension, bone health and women's health. “Pat brought to Cabot a wealth of information and a critical focus on the health and nutritional benefits of our reduced and low fat lines,” states Dr. Richard Stammer, President of Cabot Creamery. “We are so proud of Pat’s contributions, not only to Cabot, but to the larger community and applaud her receipt of this very deserved award.”

The VDA is the advocate for the dietetic professionals serving the public through the promotion of optimal nutrition, health, and well-being. The organization is a chapter of the American Dietetic Association and is composed of over 130 Vermont registered dietitians and dietetics throughout the state of Vermont.
