CABOT CHEDDAR NAMED “OUTSTANDING CLASSIC”
Vermont Cheese is Honored at 2002 Summer Fancy Food Show

Cabot, VT — Cheddar cheese from Cabot Creamery in Vermont has again received top honors for its exceptional flavor and high quality. At the NASFT’s 30th Annual Product Awards Competition held this week in New York City, Cabot’s Private Stock Cheddar was named gold medalist in the Outstanding Classic product category. In the past five years, Cabot has twice been recognized by NASFT as a gold medal winner and five times as a finalist, in addition to fifteen other top national and international awards.

Hosted by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT), the Annual Product Awards Competition features two rounds of judging. First, a jury of distinguished specialty food retailers from across the country selects from four to seven finalists for each of 20 categories from among almost 1,400 entries. Next, over 100 specialty retailers individually evaluate the finalists and cast votes for the winning product in each category. Retailers vote during the International Fancy Food & Confection Show, the specialty food industry’s premier event, which ran from July 7th through July 9th. Gold statuettes are awarded based on product characteristics such as quality, taste, salability, presentation/packaging and suggested retail price.

This is the most recent in a string of Cabot successes at the Summer Fancy Food Show. Cabot has been named a finalist five times in the past five years in a variety of categories. In 1997, Cabot’s 3-lb Cheddar Wheel was honored with the “Outstanding Classic” award.

“We are grateful for this recognition by the specialty food trade of both our quality and our longstanding tradition of excellence,” said Dr. Richard Stammer, President of Cabot Creamery Cooperative. “This success is a direct result of the commitment and hard work of both our farm family owners and our employees.”

Cabot Creamery Cooperative has been in continuous operation in Vermont since 1919 and makes a full line of cheeses, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese and butter. Cabot dairy products have won every major award for taste. In addition to Fancy Food Show honors, over the past five years alone Cabot has held the titles of “Best Cheddar” and “Best Flavored Cheese” from the World Championship Cheese Contest, “Best Cow’s Milk Cheddar” from the American Cheese Society, “Most Outstanding Cheese” from the National Milk Producers Federation and “Best Cheddar” and “Best Aged Cheddar” from the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest, among others. Cabot is owned by the dairy farm families of Agri-Mark, the Northeast's premier dairy cooperative.
