CABOT HONORED FOR PROMOTING GOOD NUTRITION

Naples, Florida- Cabot Creamery was honored this month at the annual symposium of the Florida Dietetic Association (FDA) as recipient of the 2003 FDA Business and Industry Award. The annual award, presented to Patricia Laggis, Nutrition Representative for Cabot Creamery, recognized Cabot not only for “their support of FDA, but the overall promotion of good nutrition.”

Since 1989, Cabot has had full time staff dedicated to numerous initiatives aimed at educating the public and media on issues of health and nutrition. Laggis leads the Cabot Health Team as they work closely with dietitians, diabetes educators and health professional to educate consumers on dairy's important role in a healthy lifestyle. Over the years, Cabot's reduced fat dairy products have played a significant role in major research projects including DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension), the Women's Health Initiative and Tuft's University Bones Project. These are studies that look at dairy's impact on hypertension, bone health and women's health.

“Cabot is dedicated to the critical focus on the health and nutritional benefits of our dairy products, and especially our reduced and low fat lines,” states Dr. Richard Stammer, President of Cabot Creamery. “We are so proud to be recognized for the hard work of our Health Team– not only on behalf of Cabot, but in the interest of good health.”

Florida Dietetic Association is comprised of 4,000 members who represent all aspects of nutrition services, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, research, education, private practice, public health, long-term care facilities, wellness programs, school food service, pharmaceutical companies, as well as business and industry, all dedicated to improving the health of the citizens of Florida. The purpose of FDA is to provide the most up-to-date, comprehensive nutrition education for its members, so they can, in turn, serve the public in a range of nutrition and health issues.
