CABOT CREAMERY BUTTER JUDGED BEST IN U.S.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Cabot Creamery’s champion butter makers took the top score at last week’s butter judging, held in conjunction with the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest. In earning the "Best of Class" distinction in the Salted Butter category, Cabot’s score of 99.75 out of 100 topped all other butter scores.

"Winning this award again demonstrates our employees’ commitment to quality, matched only by our farmers’ dedication to providing us the highest quality cream and milk," said Cabot President and CEO Richard Stammer. "We’re best known for winning every major award for cheddar," Stammer continued. "How pleased we all are that recognition now comes to our natural creamery butter as well."

Cabot salted and unsalted butter is churned at Cabot’s West Springfield MA plant. Plant Manager Ed Pcolar and Senior Vice President of Operations Richard Langworthy have big plans for promoting this victory. "Or at least a big banner on our plant, right smack on busy Riverdale Street – the most highly traveled road in the area," laughed Pcolar. Other plans include a tribute to the butter makers on the butter packaging. "We won and we want consumers around the United States to know that when they buy Cabot, they are buying the best butter available. This award says it all," announced Langworthy when telling the plant's employees about the win.

Winners at the U.S. Championships are determined by 10 expert judges from across the country whose challenge is to identify the finest cheeses and butters in over 30 categories. This year, a record 681 entries were evaluated on traits, such as flavor, body, texture, finish, and packaging. Cabot’s Natural Creamery Butters are available in supermarkets and super centers across the country.
