Contact Information: Cheese Sales Continue Strong Despite Tight Economy “In these difficult economic times, we are thrilled that Cabot is continuing with its impressive national growth,” states Jim Pratt, senior vice president of operations for Cabot. “Growth means more jobs for Vermonters and more security for our farmer owners. Cabot’s employment in our cheese packaging operation has doubled in the past five years, but we continue to need skilled production workers.” Cabot has established a jobs hotline for individuals interested in joining the Cabot team at 1-802-229-9361. The new warehouse will be 62,000 sq feet, including 10 loading docks and state-of-the-art refrigeration and will be located on Gallison Hill Road in Montpelier. Ground breaking on the $6 million project is slated for next month with completion estimated for April 2004. Cabot will be leasing the facility from owner/developer Pat Malone. Agri-Mark/Cabot has more than 500 employees in Vermont throughout its Middlebury, Cabot and Montpelier locations. For the second time in three years that the growing popularity of the Cabot brand nationwide has forced the company to allocate more of its facilities in Cabot to production and packaging. In 2000, the Cabot administrative offices were moved to Montpelier into the vacant, former Army Reserve Center on the site of the historic Jacob Davis, Jr., Farmstead. Cabot has also been leasing storage space in Montpelier for the aging of some of its signature naturally aged cheddars. Cabot Creamery Cooperative has been in continuous operation in Vermont since 1919 and is owned by the dairy farm families of Agri-Mark, the Northeast’s premier dairy cooperative. Cabot makes a full line of cheeses and other dairy products, including “The World’s Best Cheddar” as judged at the 22nd Biennial World Championship Cheese Contest.
