NEW CABOT CREAMERY DISTRIBUTION CENTER MARKS
CONTINUED GROWTH FOR COMPANY

MONTPELIER, Vermont, September 9, 2004 – Cabot Creamery marked the opening of a new 63,000 square foot Distribution Center on Gallison Hill Road in Montpelier, Vermont, on Wednesday. This state-of-the-art cold storage facility will allow for the consolidation, storage, selection, and distribution of Cabot and McCadam label products from this new location. Agri-Mark, the leading dairy farmer cooperative in the Northeast, owns both the Cabot and the newly acquired McCadam brands.

“Increasing demand for Cabot brand products was the driving force behind this new facility,” said Jim Pratt, Cabot’s senior vice president of operations. “Not only does the new Distribution Center allow us to meet existing needs more efficiently, it has also been designed to accommodate projected growth well into the future.”

A total of 52 jobs have moved to Montpelier from the previous warehouse location in Cabot. This move will now allow expansion of Cabot’s cheese packaging operation into the space that formerly housed the warehouse. With that expansion, Cabot expects to add approximately 50 additional employees. For information on joining the Cabot team, call 1-800-346-9449.

Based in Hanover, Massachusetts Food Tech Structures constructed the $6 million distribution facility for Malone Properties. Cabot worked closely with Malone Properties to design a facility that meets all of the company’s specifications. Cabot will operate at the new facility under a 15-year lease agreement with Malone Properties.

“The partnership between Cabot and Malone Properties is an ideal example of how to make business work cost-effectively in Vermont,” said Patrick Malone, owner of Malone Properties. “It’s a win-win and we are so pleased to work with Cabot once again.”

The new facility includes ten loading docks, an ammonia refrigeration system, and a pallet bar code and numbering system that will allow for the future integration of a real time warehouse inventory tracking and order selection program. The warehouse was designed and constructed to comply with the State of Vermont’s demanding Energy Efficiency Guidelines.

The new Distribution Center marks a continued commitment by Cabot to Vermont’s Capital City. In October 2000, Cabot relocated its administrative offices into the vacant, former Army Reserve Center on the site of the historic Jacob Davis, Jr. farmstead – Montpelier’s first farm. The building was renovated and expanded by Connor Contracting to meet Cabot’s needs. Cabot has also been leasing storage space in Montpelier from Malone Properties for the aging of some of its signature, naturally-aged cheddar.

Cabot Creamery has been in continuous operation in Vermont since 1919 and is owned by the dairy farm families of Agri-Mark, the Northeast’s premier dairy cooperative. Cabot makes a full line of cheeses and other dairy products, including “the World’s Best Cheddar” as judged at the 22nd Biennial World Championship Cheese Contest.
