Whetstone Farm
W. Brattleboro, VT

Edward Hamilton bought his first cows just after WWII. He and his wife, Ruth, raised four children and the boys, Tim, Dean, and Jay, have all stayed at the farm, each developing special aspects of a modern diversified agribusiness.

Dean's specialty is cropping; he has found innovative ways to feed a mix of 120 registered and grade Holsteins. The 300 acres of Whetstone Farm are mostly forested, so he leases good tillable land all over Brattleboro for his requirements of corn alfalfa and grass.

Tim runs the excavating, sawmill and maple sugar sides of the farm. Jay is the herdsman; he knows genetics and spends his time exclusively in the barn.

The brothers are still farming because of the love of agriculture their father instilled in them... and because they are really good at it! Whetstone Farm regularly wins top milk quality awards and has been New England Green Pastures Dairy Farm of the year.
