Robb Family Farm
W. Brattleboro, VT

Charlie Robb Sr.'s great grandparents started farming here in 1907, driving thier herd over the hill from West Guilford, where they'd been in dairy since Thomas F. Bettersley came back from the civil war. Three generations made that hike with the herd: Thomas and Christine, their daughter and her husband Isaac Robb, and the Robb's baby boy, Herman. Five years later, Isaac built the handsome colonial farmhouse with room for all. The barn, which features a unique gothic window, was moved here from Halifax. It was Isaac's touch; he was a gifted finish carpenter.

Today, Charlie Jr. lives in the house down the road that his parents occupied when they started in dairy here four decades ago. Jerseys were switched for Guerneys and then the Robbs settled on Holsteins, now milking between fifty and sixty.

Charlie Sr. is proud of Robb Farm Milk: "Good productionfor a Holstein might be 18,000 pounds a year; our herd average is 22,300. What's really wonderful is the premium we get for 4.1 butterfat and 3.3 protein." Add to thist he Region 8 Agrimark award for quality and you've got a truly great farm.

Helen, always quick to notice an opportunity, wants folks to know that Robb Farm does a brisk business in syrup, holiday gift baskets (featuring Cabot cheese), and sleigh rides. Give them a call if you want Bo and Pete to give you a brisk ride through the woods.
