Here's the Math of Modern Farming

The corn is as high as a house at Wakefield's Meadowbrook Farm in West Brookfield. A stack of almost two million pounds, grown, chopped and delivered by Lincoln Custom Cropping, lies under plastic in front of the farm's huge silos.

Each of those 'marshmellows' on top is a bale of haylage weighing about a thousand pounds! Lynn Wakefield reports that each silo contains about 500 tons of haylage. Add to those another 500 stored in other, smaller silos and over 1500 of those 'marshmellow' bales and you know how much feed this farm has stocked for 240 milkers for the coming winter.
