Kempton Farm
Peacham, VT

George Kempton is so old, as a teen-aged farm hand, he cut ice off a pond to cool milk. He also used horses for most of the chores. This was during WWII in Windham, Vermot.

George Kempton is also a youthful, visionary farming member of the Cabot Co-operative Creamery. He has brought his Peacham hill farm into the 21st century with 300 milkers and the latest dairy technology. Having Patty, a mainstay and wife of fifty years, has "made it all a joy," muses Kempton, a retired member of the Agrimark Board of Directors.

Together, Patty and George have raised five children and about 7,000 dairy cows since coming to Peacham to farm in 1962.

Matty, their youngest, and his wife, Dawn, have thrown their lot enthusiastically into dairy as well. They're a big part of Kempton Farms growth during the last two decades.

Asked when he decided on farming as a future, Matty smiles, saying, "I don't know— come back and ask me again in a year or so!"

To visit Kempton Farms, just go to the Peacham General Store and ask for directions. You won't find prettier views or finer folks anywhere.
